Looking for a quick trip anywhere in the world? Are you a soccer lover? Manchester is the right place for you!
Manchester is one of England’s most popular cities. That’s in large part because of the city’s two successful soccer clubs: Manchester United and Manchester City.
For soccer fanatics all around the world, the Premier League and Champions League are the two best competitions at club level in the world. More often than not, both Manchester clubs are competing to win these two competitions.
The stakes are always high, which makes every game so entertaining. As a result, Manchester is one of the best places for a quick soccer getaway, and even for those who aren’t die hard for the sport!
Watch a Champions League or Premier League game
Both Manchester clubs have such amazing fan bases that carry passion for their clubs in their veins. That same passion intensifies when their club plays in the Champions League.
This competition is meant to crown the best team in all of Europe. The atmosphere in Champions League games is unmatched in any sport. If there’s a chance to see one of the Manchester clubs play a Champions League game at home, it’s a must. The quality of the games is impressive, and the fans make the games so fun.
If the Champions League isn’t an option, a Premier League game will do. Either way, attending a soccer game in Manchester is imperative! Gameday will take up your whole evening, especially if you want good spots before the game to see players arrive to the stadium.
Tours of Old Trafford and Etihad Stadium
Old Trafford is one of England’s oldest stadiums and is home of Manchester United. There is so much history to explore, and the stadium itself is breathtaking.
Manchester City’s stadium is the Etihad Stadium. It is a bit smaller, but equally as impressive as Old Trafford. There are tours of both stadiums all day long on select days.
To purchase tickets, one must go to the club’s website. The tours will make you feel like a player and give you the best experience possible. Both tours can be knocked out in the same day, as they generally last 90 minutes each.
Be sure to check out each stadium’s club store for souvenirs!
National Football Museum
Located in the heart of Manchester, the National Football Museum is exactly what it sounds like. There is a tremendous amount of history in the museum, spanning across three floors.
Most of the history is related to England, and rightfully so, as it was the country to introduce the sport. The museum has dozens of historic artifacts, ranging from jerseys to balls and medals.
There are centuries of history in the museum, all related to soccer. Perfect for any fan of all ages. A good tour of the museum can last about two hours give or take.
Media City UK
Although this isn’t related to soccer, it’s a great place to kill time before a game. Media City is located about a 30-minute walk from Old Trafford.
The area highlights Manchester’s intentions of modernizing their look. There are many restaurants and some shops to walk around while waiting for a game to start. One of Manchester’s Metrolink lines conveniently ends and begins in Media City, so people can explore other parts of the city as well.
A good walk of the area will last about two hours.
There really isn’t a better place to be than Manchester for a few days. August to the following May is packed with soccer games for the season.
Two days in Manchester can go by completely focused on a game and tours of the stadiums. A third day is more so to explore the city on the Metrolink. Whatever the occasion may be, Manchester remains a great city to explore for soccer lovers.
