Escape to Curacao: Top 5 Attractions on the Island

Bon Bini, it means no worries. Curacao knows how to bon bini, all while serving as a beautiful tropical vacation destination.

Willemstad, Curacao

There isn’t any place more tropical than the Carribean. Along with that comes a wave of tourists all year round to the more popular islands, such as the Bahamas.

However, there is one island, about a 30-minute ferry ride above Venezuela, that not many people have heard of.

The island’s name: Curacao.

It is almost surprising how few people are familiar with the island, unless they’re Dutch. Curacao is a beautiful island with many luxuries to make a vacation feel like vacation. The island’s slang is literally to live with no worries, the exact meaning of a vacation.

Although Curacao is a small island, there is enough to make the trip memorable and worthwhile.

Here are the top 5 attractions the island has to offer:

#5: Flamingo Park

Curacao is home to thousands of flamingos migrating to the island throughout the year. Flamingo Park happens to be the hot spot for all these flamingos visiting the island.

The park is primarily composed of a huge lagoon/pond and a bit of surrounding land. People are able to pull onto the side of the road that passes by the park to take photos and admire the animals.

In addition, this road leads to some of Curacao’s other top attractions, so it is more than likely that people will pass by the flamingos!

#4: Shete Boka National Park

For those of you who enjoy nature, the Shete Boka National Park may be worth exploring. However, it is not the best idea to explore the park when the heat is extreme.

There is basically no shade, only the ocean breeze. Shete Boka is a nice place to take pictures with an oceanic background.

There are stairs in the park that lead to a cave as well, giving you exclusive access to the ocean and more picture friendly environments. Plus, the cave will provide some sort of relief from the heat!

The park is good to stop by for about 30 minutes.

#3: Hato Caves

Hato Caves

The Hato Caves are one of Curacao’s must-see natural attractions. There are dozens of caves in the area, with a lot of history between each cave.

In fact, some of the caves were formed as a result of earthquakes on the island. In addition, there is one cave in particular that has small bats living in them. This cave is optional to step foot in, but the bats are harmless.

There are tour guides included in some of the admissions for the caves. It is definitely the best way to explore the caves, and they end their tours at the best picture-taking cave.

The Hato Caves can be explored in about 90 minutes.

#2: Willemstad

Willemstad, Curacao

Curacao’s capital, Willemstad, is a great place for nightlife and a touristy environment the whole day. In fact, whenever people see postcards about Curacao, Willemstad is the area that pops up the most.

With its colorful architecture, shopping centers, and proximity to the ocean, Willemstad is a great place to just walk around and let loose. The best restaurants are conveniently located in the capital as well.

Willemstad is also home to the Queen Emma Bridge, a popular attraction among tourists. There are no shortages of spots to take great pictures in Willemstad, as long as there is exploring going on!

#1: Knip Beach

Knip Beach

Perhaps the best beach there is available in the Carribean, Curacao’s Knip Beach is by far the best attraction in Curacao.

Personally, I believe this is the best beach I’ve ever been to. The water is so relaxing, so clear, and there are no waves slamming into people while they swim. People play their music on their speakers at respectful volumes and the vibes are just calm and cool.

There is even a cliff where people can jump from to take cool videos of themselves jumping into the water. Next to the cliff, there is an area to take photos with the beach in the background, so people can keep those memories.

Knip Beach does have a decent number of fishes in the water, all very small and harmless. This beach is too good to be true, and everyone should definitely visit this beach for a day in Curacao.

All in all, Curacao is honestly a very nice place to visit for a vacation. Five days seems to be more than enough to explore the whole island.

Curacao offers many tours to cover their best attractions, in English, Spanish, and Dutch. There are plenty of things to do alone, from beaches to aquariums to wandering around. Most important of all, bon bini!
