As the new year approaches, it’s a perfect time to reflect on yourselves and how you can be a better person going forward.
Nobody is perfect in this world, and much less for an entire year. Everyone has their own faults and ways they could become better people.
As the new year approaches, it is important to reflect on the good and bad that the year brought. Family, friends, and health are perhaps the things that matter the most in life. Jobs and the money we make are necessary, but it means nothing without the people that make us happy.
As a result, everyone should focus on how they can be better people for others. However, the most important person to be better for is one’s own self.
Here are five inspiring resolutions to try out in the new year:
#1: Get out of your comfort zone
There are millions of ways people can get out of their comfort zone.
Some people may be shy meeting new people, others may be scared of heights. The greatest people in their industries are the ones who are comfortable in the uncomfortable.
Whether its introducing yourself to someone new once a week at your job, or trying skydiving, everyone can tackle their discomfort. Furthermore, it allows people to learn new things about themselves they never would’ve known.
Anyone from all ages can focus on one thing they want to be more comfortable with throughout the new year.
#2: Allow yourself to treat yourself
Oftentimes, people tend to focus more on the needs of others rather than their own needs. It’s a great quality to have, but it can sometimes come at the expense of oneself.
People forget that they deserve and can be happy by doing things they want to do. As a society, people remind themselves that they need to save money and spend it on other more important things.
While it may be true, it doesn’t eliminate our right to do the things we love to do. As long as people aren’t disrespecting others or committing offense, they should treat themselves occasionally.
If someone wants to buy Chipotle every Friday after work, they should do it if it makes them happy. Or if someone wants to take the train to visit their family every weekend, they should do it. Stop making yourself miserable for others and enjoy your life!
#3: Find someone you can lean on
One of the toughest parts of growing up is not having someone to share yourself with. Everyone has their own true identity, but oftentimes people feel limited to being their selves around society.
The majority of people are truly themselves around their parents or siblings, but as time moves on, there can be distance between people. In addition, sometimes people don’t feel comfortable sharing everything with family.
Everyone needs someone they can feel good about sharing their true emotions and what they have going on in life. Above all, everyone needs someone who can provide advice when they need it.
Some people may find it difficult to share what they really feel, which is why this should be a resolution for everyone. Whether it’s a friend or a partner, having someone to lean on reduces the weight off one’s shoulders.
#4: Pick up a hobby
Today’s environment can be overwhelming and stressful most of the time. The majority of people’s time goes towards their job, or at least 40 hours a week. Having something to distract themselves is not only physically healthy, but also emotionally.
Life isn’t only about work and going home. There’s so much to explore in any part of the world. This resolution is meant to provide people with something they enjoy doing, whether it’s alone or with others.
Consequently, when someone has something they enjoy doing, it can provide a distraction to anything bad going on in the real world. Especially to those who are young, it is a perfect time to be involved in something, whether it’s a sport or activity once a week. The impact it can have on one’s life is amazing.
#5: Embrace the difficult times
There are too many people who get frustrated when the going gets tough. The heads go down, the complaining begins, and the attitude changes. Hence, people begin to give up or wonder why their doing something in the first place.
People would be surprised to see how much can change when one smiles at a challenge. When one changes their mentality to loving a new challenge instead of rolling their eyes. Instead of seeing a problem as a bad thing, see it as a good thing. There’s an opportunity to learn and grow from the experience.
Whatever the outcome may be, you’d have become a better person because of the challenge. For this reason, one should approach a challenge as a gift to prove themselves worthy of something bigger, or a lesson to work harder.
Everyone will have their time; it’s about waiting for it and always working hard for it. This resolution should resemble with everyone because at the end, everything happens for a reason, even when we don’t see it.
Everyone will have their own resolutions come the new year. In fact, everyone should have at least one resolution for every month. It’s amazing how different people’s mentalities are, and even more amazing how much they learn as life moves on.
Nobody is perfect, so these resolutions are just one step to trying to be better people in the near future. People should want to be better for others, but most importantly for themselves.
